Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) may cause issues when using the Convoso system.
In VoIP, timeliness is more important than Packet Loss. Losing a few frames is a small issue, on the other hand, Packets arriving later or rubber-banding have been seen to cause massive audio issues.
Real-time voice protocols use UDP (User Datagram Protocol) which ignores queuing or retrying.
If you layer your UDP communication on top of a VPN:
- A UDP VPN may introduce some Latency.
- A TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) VPN can cancel out the benefits of UDP.
Using a Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) tool such as a ZScaler, or other ZTNA or VPN-adjacent tool can cause latency issues and introduce routing concerns that may impact connectivity.
These tools can cause issues such as disconnects, call drops, and one-sided audio.
