Overview
Least Cost Routing (LCR) standard term in the voice telecommunications industry. LCR is a process that selects the BEST, or least expensive, route for your call.
Cheap does not equal low-quality. Convoso maintains direct routes to many Carriers to optimize successful call connections, resulting in improved Contact Rates.
How Does Convoso Use Least Cost Routing?
Direct routes to the consumer are often the best route, and since no Intermediary Carriers are involved (who then impose additional charges), a direct route is typically the lowest-cost route for a call.
Convoso has direct routes to most, if not all, terminating Carriers, and these routes are prioritized. If that direct route is unavailable, Convoso will route the call to the next lowest-cost carrier until all Intermediary Carriers are exhausted or the call is successfully routed.
Note: A call that returns NA (No Answer) or reaches an Answering Machine is considered a Successful call.
- In this case, Convoso will not attempt that call through Intermediary routes.
- Intermediary routes are attempted only if the call is rejected by the receiving Carrier due to Congestion or other routing issues internal to that Carrier.
How Does this Work?
LCR prioritizes direct routes and will first attempt to route the call to the Carrier of the destination number, i.e., the DID dialed.
- For example, if a dialed number belongs to an AT&T customer, a direct route to AT&T is usually the cheapest option since no Intermediary Carriers are involved in the call.
Intermediary Carriers are Carriers that are not the Carrier of the receiving call. These intermediaries impose charges for routing the call outside their Carrier network, so the direct route through the same Carrier of the DID is typically the cheapest route.
- If AT&T is Congested and rejects the call attempt, Convoso will attempt the call through the next lowest-cost Intermediary Carrier, such as Verizon.
- Verizon will attempt to route the call through AT&T, which will result in Verizon levying a routing charge. However, if the Cost Cap allows, the call will be attempted through this route.
- If Verizon cannot connect the call for some reason, Convoso will attempt to send the call through other Intermediary Carriers, starting again with the next lowest cost, until the call is successful or all Intermediary Carriers have been attempted.
