File is too large to open in Excel?
This issue is commonly encountered when clients tried to export large files that exceeds the number of rows or columns that Excel can handle.
An excel worksheet can only contain 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns. Opening a file that has more than this may cause data loss.
You will get an error when you try to load a file in Excel that has more than the allowable number of rows or columns.
When you press OK to continue opening the file, all excess data that are more than the row/column limit automatically gets removed from view.
A good work around this issue is to split the file using CSV splitter program. One of the most convenient to use is CSV Chunker. (Alternate Google Driver link HERE)
Download the attached zip file in this FAQ or use the link above.
Extract the zip file to your computer, downloads or documents folder (You may use the Window's built-in extract function)
Right click on the zip file and select Extract All..
Select the destination folder you would like to extract the file to and press Extract button in the bottom
Go inside the extracted folder and run CSV File Chunker
Press the Select File option and select the file that you want to split
Once file is selected, enter a number in the Lines Per File. It should not exceed 1,048,576 rows (It's ideal to just put 1,000,000. Also put a check mark in First Line is Header if your spreadsheet has headers.
Press the Split button to start the splitting process
Press the OK button once splitting process is complete
Go to the folder where you have your original file and there should be a new folder created there called Split
Open the Split folder and you should see new spreadsheets. These are the files that got split. Note that it has a number part on each of their names
